Sven’s review of Atwood’s ORYX AND CRAKE is a total misreading of a great novel, so I wrote an alternative review and sent it to him at AGNI. He wrote me back a very cool rejection note. We were both born in 1951. I’d love to go out drinking with him.

Rain is good in moderation. I never knew how much I needed the sun (I was born and reared in Miami) until I spent some time in London. The light is different here.

Waterford Ireland is the most beautiful city I’ve ever been to. I walked around mesmerized and talked to the locals. “Do you realize you’re living in Paradise?” I said to three of them. All three of them said the exact same thing: “This is the first day it hasn’t rained in three months.”
